The historic county of Cambridgeshire enjoys lovely, unspoilt countryside. Visit the fens of black peat which have been reclaimed from their natural marsh state. With rivers and channels running through them, the Fens afford the most spectacular sunsets. Wisbech has some attractive examples of Georgian Street architecture. Nestled in the rolling hills, the Ouse Valley has very pretty yellow-honey coloured stone villages as does the riverside Nene Valley.

Steeped in history, the elegant university town of Cambridge, located on the River Cam, consists of ancient colleges, beautiful bridges, peaceful gardens and old cobbled streets. Just wandering around the streets evokes the historic sense of the place.

Some places to visit in Cambridge could include:

  • All Saints Church which is one of the finest examples of Gothic revival architecture.
  • Emmanuel College which was designed by Sir Christopher Wren.
  • The Cambridge University Press Bookshop which is located on the oldest bookshop site in England. Books have been sold here since 1581.
  • The Church of the Holy Sepulchre which is one of the few Norman round churches in England.

Lincolnshire offers a very varied mix of activities, just a very few of them are outlined below:

  • Lincoln Castle and Lincoln Cathedral in Lincoln.
  • The Seal Sanctuary in Skegness or Maplethorpe.
  • Easton Walled Gardens in Grantham.
  • Battle of Britain Aeroplanes in Louth.
  • Grimsthorpe Castle in Bourne.

No visit to Nottinghamshire would be complete without a trip to Robin Hood’s Sherwood Forest. There are still 450 acres of ancient oak and silver birch left of Robin’s forest.

Bestwood Counntry Park used to be part of Sherwood Forest and now boasts 650 acres of wonderful wildlife habitat and many walking trails and tracks.

Newstead Abbey was the home of Lord Byron. Enjoy the extensive gardens and parkland with their glorious waterfalls, lakes and ponds, or visit the Byron museum. Or explore Gunthorpe with its locks and river walks.

You will not be short of sights to see in Nottingham itself. Visit Nottingham’s Lace market or, for those with a more macabre taste, visit the Galleries of Justice where you can discover what it was like to be a criminal 250 years ago. Take part in a public trial and visit the side of the hangman’s gibbet! Visit the Brewyard rock and castle rock caves or enjoy the architecture of the many churches in Nottingham, such as St. Nicholas’ Church, St. Peter’s Church, St. Mary’s Church and St. Barnabas Church.
