The birthplace of Thomas Gainsborough is Gainsborough House whichdates back to the 16th Century. This historic house with its charming walled garden is home to a fantastic collection of Gainsborough’s painting, prints and drawings.
While there are countless country houses to visit in this area, Ickworth House stands out for its unique architecture. It is built in the Italianate style featuring a central rotunda with 2 curved wings.
Spend a day in Shepreth Wildlife Park where monkeys and lemurs bound from tree to tree, wolves and tigers sun themselves in their dens and birds of prey swoop from the skies.
Scare yourself at ‘Tales of the Old Gaol House’ where you are taken through a 1930s police station in the town of King’s Lynn and into the old cells beyond. Hear stores of highwaymen, murderers and robbers or see what it feels like to be trapped in the stocks. For something a little more tranquil, visit the Thursford Collection which takes you back to a traditional old-fashioned fairground with carousel rides and mechanical organs. The traditional Norfolk farm buildings house Dickensian style shops, an ice cream parlour and a tea shop. A great Christmas Spectacular is held here every November and December.
