Self Catering Holiday Homes in the Lake District and Cumbria

The Lake District and Cumbria in the North West of England offer a genuinely mixed bag of landscapes and activities. Along with the glorious lakes which offer an Eden for the walker, climber, painter or poet, there is also the Forest of Bowland in Lancashire where you can enjoy gentle walks along splendid tree-shaded tracks. Or why not try a spot of antique spotting in the market town of Sette or stroll through the Victorian covered markets of Carlisle which also offer a great selection of restaurants. Trident Holiday Homes have a wide choice of self-catering holiday homes in the Lake District and surrounding areas from which to truly enjoy this wonderful part of England.Self Catering in Lakes, Cumbria & North West

The Lake District conjures up images of British poets putting pen to paper in this most glorious piece of England. William Wordswoth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Robert Southey are known as the Lake Poets and when you visit the Lake District you will see how they were inspired.

Some of the towns and villages in the Lake District include:

  • Coniston, one of the most famous of all Lakeland destinations, is located next to Lake Coniston and at the foot of The Old Man of Coniston.
  • The ancient market town of Kendal which is located on the River Kent is a lively town of considerable beauty, culture and history.
  • The graceful village of Appleby-in-Westmorland, with its mediaeval architecture and lovely riverside setting, is the starting point for many walks through the fell countryside.
  • The picturesque little village of Backbarrow with its beautiful riverside location on the River Leven.
  • The ancient and beautiful village of Dacre consists of a few cottages, farms, a church, a castle and a pub.Self Catering in Lakes, Cumbria & North West

The Forest of Bowland has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and covers over 300 square miles of rural Lancashire. There are some wonderful well worn gentle walks in the forest and, for those of a more intrepid nature, the forest now offers some of the most remote and rugged walking in the North West. The fabulous birdlife of the forest includes the Peregrine Falcon and the Merlin which is Britain’s smallest bird of prey. Bowland is also a very important side for breeding the Hen Harrier which is a threatened bird.

Some other things to do in the area could include:

  • A visit to the working farm at Hill Top which was the setting for Beatrix Potter’s delightful animal tales.
  • Spend some time at The Puzzling Place where you can see balls rolling uphill or visibly grow and shrink in the Ames Room.
  • Or sample the delicious gingerbread at Grasmere Gingerbread Shop.Self Catering in Lakes, Cumbria & North West
