Self Catering Holiday Homes in the Peak District

Stay in one of our holiday cottages in the glorious Peak district. This area offers some of the most beautiful landscapes in the North of England. Besides the wonderful walking, cycling and riding trails throughout the district, there are many other great places to visit in this most lovely area. Discover the delights of the Victorian splendour of Buxton, scale the fabulous Heights of Abraham, plunge into the depths of Peak Cavern in Castleton, enjoy the majesty of Chatsworth House or spend a day at Alton Towers.

Situated over 1000 feet up in the Derbyshire Hills, Buxton has been a holiday destination for centuries as people travelled there for its world famous spa water. Surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside, this area offers fantastic walks, climbs, bird-watching, horse riding and caving, Buxton has a number of places of interest  including:

  • The tranquil ornamental gardens
  • The Opera House which boasts the largest unsupported dome in the country
  • St. Ann’s Well which is fed by a geothermal spring
  • The extensive limestone cavern at Poole’s Cavern

The Heights of Abraham are again located at over 1000 feet high but an enjoyable cable car ride gets you to the top effortlessly. The views from The Heights are truly breathtaking. The lovely paths and woodland trails provided inspiration for the Romantic Movement of the 1800s. Beside the joys of above ground, you can also explore the passageways and caverns deep underground in the former lead mine.

The pretty village of Castleton is located in the beautiful Vale of Hope. Overlooked by ancient Peveril Castle, the village is surrounded by steep hills on three sides. Castleton has 4 underground show caves including Speedwell Cavern, with its 'bottomless pit', which can only be reached by boat along an underground canal. Whilst here, pop into one of the pretty pubs which dates back to the 17th century.

Magnificent Chatsworth House is backed by a tree-covered hillside and fronted by the River Derwent and is surrounded by wonderful gardens and woodlands. Wander through the splendid house or take a gentle walk through the beautiful gardens or venture a little further into the very attractive woodland park.

For the adrenaline junkies, a day in Alton Towers is a must. Set in the grounds of a semi-ruined, gothic revival country house, the theme park offers some fantastically exciting roller coaster rides including an inverted roller coaster, a vertical drop roller coaster and a flying roller coaster!

The Peak District makes a great holiday destination with its stunning scenery, fantastic walking and cycling opportunities, great family entertainment and pretty towns and villages. Trident Holiday Homes has a great selection of holiday cottages in The Peak District and Derbyshire.
