Picardie’s coastline with its glorious beaches and dunes stretches for miles. This is the perfect place for wind surfing and sailing, or why not try you hand at a spot of land yachting. Because of its varied landscape, this is a walker’s paradise with many trails snaking their way through forests and glades. There are 15 extended walking routes in the region which are very well maintained and signposted. Or perhaps see the area on horse back.

There are a large number of golf courses set in very picturesque parks and woodlands. There are some very interesting archaeological sites such as Samara in the Somme and many splendid gothic cathedrals such as Amiens, Senlis and Noyon.

Picardie has a staggering 400 parks so enjoy the many botanical gardens, market gardens and public gardens. Visit the spectacular floating gardens at Hortillonnages or the medicinal gardens at Vauclair Abbey. Amiens, the capital of the region has a remarkable Gothic Cathedral which is an UNESCO world heritage site.
Saint Quentin with its eclectic architecture which is a blend of Gothic, neo-classical and art-deco.
The hilltop medieval city of Laon has preserved much of its past. Visit the gothic style Notre-Dame Cathedral which was built in the 12th century.
Ramble through the narrow cobbled streets of Senlis and admire its cathedral topped by a 78 metre spire.
Located within a majestic forest, Compiegne was a residence for French kings and emperors. The surrounding forests were royal hunting grounds and wild boar and deer still roam freely.
This area of France was embroiled in both World Wars and there are many cemeteries, war monuments and battlefield museums in the area.
