These self catering holiday apartments in Killaloe are situated on the eastern shore of Lough Derg and enjoy lovely views over Kincora Marina. There they have the use of a toddler’s play area on site and there is a public play ground (suitable for older children) and a public, outdoor swimming pool for use during the summer months in the town.
Killaloe and its sister town Ballina, just over the bridge, has some lovely craft shops, delicatessens, restaurants and traditional pubs. This historic, cathedral town has a number of local heritage sites including St Flannan’s Oratory and an excellent visitor’s centre. The town was the birthplace of Ireland’s famous 10th century high king, Brian Boru and hosts the Brian Boru Festival every year in mid-July with traditional music, dancing and festivities.
Lough Derg is Killaloe’s main amenity and boat trips are available to book locally aboard The Spirit of Killaloe which will take you along the lake’s shores with a guide pointing out the various historical and natural points of interest. UL Activity Centre is located within 10 minutes of the holiday apartments and offers a wide variety of water sports and summer camps. Quay Arts has a programme of day and weekend workshops in art, ceramics and photography, and there is an excellent summer school programme.There are a number of marked walks and trails along the shores of the lake of varying length and difficulty. Golfers will be spoiled for choice with the variety of golf courses in the area, these include Ennis Golf Club, Nenagh Golf Club, Limerick Golf Club and East Clare Golf Club.
Situated on Clare’s boarder with counties Limerick and Tipperary, Killaloe is an ideal base from which to explore this part of Ireland being within easy reach of many of Ireland’s most famous visitor’s attractions such as Bunratty Castle, The Cliffs of Moher, The Shannon and Burren Region.
