The little village of Durrus is located at the head of Dunmanus Bay on what is called the 'Friendly Cove', between two peninsulas - Mizen Head and Sheep’s Head, on a stretch of one of the loveliest and most unspoilt coast in Ireland.
Situated in West Cork the countryside which surrounds Durrus enjoys a unique climate as a result of being warmed by the Atlantic Gulf Stream and the area is home to a wide variety of tropical plants and lush vegetation. There are numerous coves and sandy beaches along the coast lines of these two peninsulas, the nearest to Durrus being the lovely Barley Cove situated between Goleen and Crookhaven. The sandy dunes of this beach have been designated a ‘European Area of Special Conservation’. This together with the nearby Gallery Cove and Cockle Beach are ideal for swimming with wind surfing and paddle boats which are available from Ballydehob during the summer months.

In recent years, West Cork has become increasingly well known for its ‘Slow Food Movement’ – the promotion of local organic produce. There are a number of farmers markets in the area and some excellent restaurants featuring local produce such as ‘The Good Things Café’ in the village of Durrus itself which also has a cookery school.
Our holiday homes Durrus is only 15 minutes drive from Bantry town which is home to a wide variety of craft shops, galleries, good restaurants and traditional pubs together with a seafront promenade overlooking Bantry Bay. There are regular boat trips from the harbour during the summer months which take visitors out to the bay’s three main islands – Bere Island, Whiddy Island and Garnish Island also known as Ilnacullin which is known for its wide selection of plants and Italian Gardens. The waters of Bantry Bay are rich in wildlife and seals can frequently be seen there. Boats trips are also available to the lovely Sherkin Island which is perfect for a day trip.
