County Cavan is situated in the midlands of Ireland on the Shannon Erne waterways, bordering counties Meath, Longford, Leitrim, Fermanagh and Louth. Bicycles are available for hire locally in Belturbet. This part of Ireland is particularly popular with anglers having a reputation for excellent course and pike fishing. There are also a number of stretches of the river which offer good game angling.
Co. Cavan has a large number of equestrian centres offering both trekking and lessons for riders of all levels of ability. Redhills Equestrian Centre, Cavan Equestrian Centre are both within 30 minutes drive of Belturbet, with the latter hosting regular national and international show jumping competitions and horse sales.
