The Mayo coastline has a number of islands including Clare Island and Achill Island which is known for traditional pubs which frequently have live music sessions, dramatic cliffs and beaches.

One of Mayo's main tourist towns is Westport which boasts an interesting selection of craft shops, traditional pubs and good restaurants. It is 8 km from Croagh Patrick and the impressive visitors’ centre and National Famine Monument at the foot of the mountain there.
This part of the west coast has ten Blue Flag Beaches including Golden Strand, Carramore, Clew Bay Beach and Old Head. Along the coast the Atlantic Adventure Centre and Belmullet Adventure Centre offer a good choice of water sports.
Co. Mayo has some really great fishing spots such as the mixed salmon fishery at Foxford which is suitable for all fishing methods: fly, bait and spinning. Mount Falcon Lake which is well stocked with rainbow trout stocked lake and of course there is sea angling off Clew Bay, Killala Bay and Belmullet.
