County Sligo is situated in the north west of Ireland bordering counties Mayo, Roscommon and Leitrim. Trident Holiday Homes offers self catering accommodation in Co. Sligo’s
countryside is wild and rugged with its woods, lakes and mountains and is said to have inspired one of Ireland’s most famous poets, W.B. Yeats who is buried there at Drumcliffe Churchyard at the foot of Benbulben Mountain.
 

The county has an extremely high concentration of ancient remains  including the Megalithic cemetery at Carrowmore and the Neolithic cairn at Knocknarae, known locally as Queen Maeve’s grave. Other heritage sites include;Lissadell House, Co. Sligo
 
 


Easky, Co. SligoThe West Coast of Ireland has become very popular with surfers and Sligo is no exception with a variety of surf schools and equipment shops all along its coast. These include;

Enniscrone, Co. SligoThere are a number of excellent beaches along this part of the coast including the two Blue Flag Beaches Mullaghmore and Rosses Point with a 5Km long sandy beach at the traditional seaside resort of Enniscrone. This little coastal town has plenty to offer visitors from a wide variety of water sports to seaweed baths. The town also has a fantastic leisure centre – Waterpoint which has an indoor swimming pool and excellent leisure facilities. There are also two health spas, The Sunset Spa, offering a variety of treatment and the more unusual Kilcullen’s Seaweed Baths, which offers traditional seaweed of locally gathered kelp.

Golfers have plenty of choice in Sligo with a variety of championship links and smaller local courses such as;Strandhill Golf Course, Co. Sligo


Rosses Point, Co. Sligo
Sligo’s
coast also offers excellent fishing with deep sea fishing boat trips available from Enniscrone Pier. Killala Bay where the town is situated was the location where Ireland’s largest John Dory was caught.
