Ardara is known as County Donegal's festival hub, hosting the Cup An Tae Traditional Music Festival and the annual Agricultural Show. Bring your hiking boots and explore the unspoilt, rugged coastline and its jagged caves on one of the many great walking trails, such as the Bluestack Trail or Sl Cholmcille.

Ardara is a heritage town so there are many local craft shops and a number of the pubs offer live music throughout the summer months. The area surrounding Ardara offers panoramic seascapes, pristine beaches and mountains with a selection of excellent walking routes.

Things to See and Do in Donegal

Jim's Holiday Cottage Ardara is ideally located close to many beautiful beaches such as Tramore Strand, Ballinreavy Strand and Maghera Beach offering some of the most spectacular scenery in western Europe. Drive along the Donegal coast, the longest coastline in Ireland at 772 miles and enjoy breath-taking views along Donegal’s Wild Atlantic Way.

Get a round of golf in at Portnoo Golf Club which is a picturesque 18-hole golf links with scenic views of Gweebarra Bay, located 11.5km from your cosy holiday accommodation near Ardara.

Take a boat trip to see the majestic Sliabh Liag known as the highest sea cliffs in Europe. Excursions can be booked from Teelin Pier (28km) and if you’re lucky enough you can be joined by dolphins, whales, seals and basking sharks. Another option is to hike to the top of Slieve League or Slieve Liag (30km), a mountain on the Atlantic coast. Trek to the top of the Sliabh Liag and enjoy some of the highest marine cliffs in Europe. Along route you will encounter a number of lakes and at the base there is a beach of pure white sand that is only approachable by boat.

Glencolmchille Folk Village is 28km away, a cluster of small cottages, called a ‘clachan’ perched on a hillside overlooking the Glen Bay Beach in the Gaeltacht. Designed by the local people the Folk Village is one of Ireland’s best living history museums.
