Description
Cluster of pretty self-catering holiday lodges ideally located near the Blackstairs Mountains in Ballon County Carlow. These attractive holiday lodges are the perfect choice for guests who wish to explore Ireland’s Ancient East, and counties such as Kilkenny, Wexford, Laois and even county Wicklow.
Our holiday lodges are also ideal for wedding guests attending a wedding ceremony at Ballykealey House. Our cluster of holiday accommodation at Ballykealey House provide a wonderful alternative for wedding guests who like their own independence and space.
Our cluster of idyllic holiday lodges comfortably sleep 5 guests and have 2 bedrooms.
First floor:
• Triple en-suite bedroom with 1 single bed and 1 double bed, sleeping 3
• Double bed, with en-suite bathroom, sleeping 2
Plus, there is a family bathroom which includes a toilet, wash hand basin and sink located on the ground floor.
Towels and bedlinen are all supplied. Please specify when booking your holiday if you need a cot and highchair placed in your holiday cottage, extra charges may apply.
Wi-Fi is available free of charge.
Each holiday lodges have gas central heating however the utilities charges included in the rental of this holiday accommodation.
These are strictly no smoking holiday lodges.
Private car parking is also available.
Ballykealey House is ideally located beside our holiday lodges, allowing guests the option to pop in for a casual meal or drink at The John Rupert Bar. Food is served Thursday to Sunday from 12 noon until 9PM and the menu has a variety of dishes from homemade burgers to goats’ cheese tatin. There is also the option of a more formal dining experience in the Oak Room Restaurant. This room with its lavish architecture and original features creates the perfect setting for a unique dining experience with your partner, family or friends.
For a memorable holiday experience book a table in the Drawing Room and enjoy Afternoon Tea with friends and family. From this majestic room you and your holiday guests can enjoy far-reaching views of cows and horses grazing in the beautiful Carlow countryside. It’s here too that you can read about the Lecky influence and the interesting history of Ballykealey.
Guests can savour the rural countryside views enhanced by use of the ha ha fence. The fence consists of sunken ditches, creating the illusion of continuity between the gardens, the lawns and the wide-open parkland. Guests can explore the 7 acres of parkland via the on-site walking trails.
Our on-site self-catering holiday accommodation are also a great option for guests attending a special occasion, intimate weddings, anniversaries or birthday celebration at this 19th century home.
There are a number of local amenities in Ballon village, including a number of grocery shops, a post office, hardware store, café, takeaway, petrol station and butchers.
For a fun family day out visit The Chocolate Garden of Ireland, an award-winning family business making handmade chocolates and ice-cream. Throughout the year there are a number of fun chocolate workshops which can be enjoyed by all ages.
Next door is Rathwood, a well-known kids' play centre, restaurant and garden centre. Kids will love the Rathwood Express Train which runs through the woods and around our animal park so everyone gets a chance to see ducks, geese and deer. The train at Rathwood running most weekends at 3pm, please call ahead to confirm.
Altamont Gardens, one of the most beautiful gardens in Ireland is a 5-minute drive away. A delightful blend of formal and informal gardens with riverside walks covering over 40 acres.
Cycle part of the Barrow Way, an off-road joy intermittently broken up by outstanding views and wonderful villages and towns.
Take a look behind the scenes at one of Ireland’s craft brewing pioneers at Carlow Brewing Company. The O’Hara family brew the critically acclaimed O’Hara’s Irish craft beer available nationwide in Ireland and in over 25 countries around the world.

There is a total of 14 beautiful self-catering lodges situated in a courtyard setting and adjacent to Ballykealey House. Each holiday accommodation has a bridge open plan kitchen, living room and dining room area. The modern kitchen is well equipped providing all you need for a comfortable self-catering holiday in Ireland. The living room has a flame effect fire, TV and comfortable modern furnishings. Ballykealey Holiday Lodges are situated beneath the Blackstairs Mountain, a 3-minute drive from the charming village of Ballon and an 18-minute drive from Carlow town. Our holiday accommodation is also located in Ireland’s Ancient East and there is a strong archaeological presence in the area. Go see the motte and bailey at Castlemore and Castlegrace, ringforts, standing stones and holy wells. Things to do in Carlow
The Blackstairs Mountain is the second highest mountain in the Blackstairs Mountains, the highest peak being Mount Leinster with a total height of 796 metres. The Blackstairs Mountains roughly runs from north/south along the border between County Carlow and County Wexford.
