Anchor Cottage formerly a coastguard cottage sits on an elevated site in County Donegal, overlooking Lough Swilly with views of Knockalla Mountains to the rear.
There are two holiday cottages available to rent, Anchor Cottage sleeping 4 and Capstan Cottage sleeping 6 guests comfortably. Both coastal holiday cottages have been sympathetically refurbished, oozing charm and character.
From Anchor Cottage you are in for a treat as there are a number of breath-taking local beaches dotted along Lough Swilly and the Donegal coast. Scraggy Bay, a small rocky beach which has an anchorage, is conveniently located only 1 km from the holiday cottages. Ballymastocker Bay, once voted the second most beautiful beach in the world by Observer Magazine is also right on your doorstep. Anchor Cottage Description – Sleeps 4
This self catering holiday cottage has a charming open plan kitchen, living room and dining room area. The open plan style creates the perfect atmosphere for a self catering holiday with family and friends. The cottage style kitchen is well equipped and has everything you need for a comfortable self catering holiday cottage in Donegal. A multifuel stove located in the living room creates a homely atmosphere and is perfect for relaxing after long coastal walks or adventures in the wilds of Donegal. This beautiful seaside holiday cottage also has a TV, DVD and radio.
A cottage style wooden staircase leads from the kitchen to the first floor where the bedrooms are located.
Anchor Holiday Cottage sleeps 4 guests comfortably, there is 1 double bedroom offering beautiful sea views and 1 twin bedroom plus a family bathroom. From the gable window on the first floor you can enjoy amazing views of Dunree Fort & Lighthouse.
Anchor Cottage Exterior Description
Ample car parking is available beside Anchor Cottage. Towels and tea towels are provided free of charge. If you require a high chair and travel cot please remember to request them at the time of booking.
Electricity is on a card meter; €10 cards are available from the On-site Manager upon arrival and oil heating is included in the rate.
Currently there is no Wi-Fi but there is 4G signal so you have the option of creating a hotspot. However, in today's busy world this self-catering holiday cottage in Donegal creates the perfect setting to allow you to completely switch off and relax.
There is a delightful large cottage garden where you and your guests can enjoy outside dining, garden games and endless sea views. From this holiday cottage you can take time to savour the rugged Donegal scenery and fresh sea air. Please note the garden is not enclosed so children must be supervised.
No pets are allowed at both Anchor Holiday Cottages.
Kerrykeel Local Village
Kerrykeel village is 7 km from the holiday cottage, it lies between Knockalla Mountain and Ranny Hill, on the shores of Mulroy Bay. Kerrykeel has a number of grocery shops O’Kane’s of Kerrykeel. MACE and Better Buys. For dining options there is a takeaway, restaurant The Village Inn and a number of pubs, McGinley’s, Paddy Jacks and The Tavern.
Things to see and do in Donegal
Situated on the Wild Atlantic Way, Anchor Holiday Cottage is twenty miles north of Letterkenny on the "Fanad Scenic Drive". This well signposted touring route encircles the Peninsula, its dramatic coastline ranges from majestic cliffs and headlands to spectacular sandy beaches which are amongst the finest in the world. On route you must visit the dramatic and beautiful Fanad Head Lighthouse.
Letterkenny the largest town in County Donegal and 30 km away has a selection of amenities, restaurants, shops and leisure facilities.
There are a number of equestrian centres in the local area, Golden Sands Equestrian Centre, 10 km away in Rathmullen and Ashtree Stables is 20 km away. Trek and hack along quiet mountain roads and on peaceful sandy beaches on your next self catering holiday in Donegal.
Ireland’s most northerly point Malin Head is well worth the drive, experience rugged coastal landscape and attractive beaches along the 79 km drive.
The second largest national park in Ireland, Glenveagh National Park is 36 km away. While there you must visit Lenveagh Castle, a 19th century castellated mansion which was constructed in a remote mountain setting and inspired by the Victorian idyll, a romantic highland retreat.

Donegal International Rally is one the toughest rally challenges there is for drivers and teams. Every year in June three days of spectacular rallying takes place close to Anchor Holiday Cottage on the Knockalla Coast Road. The rally runs from Knockalla Coast Road, to the lush green farm lands of Carnhill, to the wide-open bog land landscape of the Donegal Glen.
This fantastic coastal setting will provide you and your guests with uninterrupted views across Lough Swilly, this incredible setting of outstanding natural beauty with some of the more beautiful coastal in Ireland right on your doorstep.
