Just a short drive away from our seaside holiday accommodation is the mysterious Bannow Island where the ‘buried’ city of Bannow is sited. This whole area is of much historical interest including the 16th Century Coohull Castle and the Three Stone Crosses Monument, dating back to the 8th century.
There are plenty of local amenities in the area including shore fishing, scenic drives, horse riding, swimming, golfing, cycling and much more.
The Wexford Diving Centre operates from Kilmore Quay which is a 25-minute drive away. In an area that boasts some of the most varied diving in Ireland, with excellent visibility divers can explore wrecks at depths ranging from 6-60 meters. Study marine life on Coningbeg Rocks or watch seals, dolphins and diving birds around the scenic Saltee Islands.
From Blackhall take a trip to the Saltee Islands which are situated 5km off the coast of Kilmore Quay. The larger of the islands The Great Saltee is famous with birdwatchers as the island is a sanctuary for so many different species such as the beautiful and very cute Puffin.
A little further afield is the bustling town of Wexford with many shops, restaurants, stunning blue flag beaches and a wide range of activities. A trip to the Irish National Heritage Park is a must on your visit to Wexford with over 9,000 years of Irish History waiting to be explored.
