Cahersiveen overlooks the Atlantic Ocean on the scenic Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry. This vibrant town is the capital of the Iveragh Peninsula and the gateway to the Skellig region, a wonderful base for a self-catering holiday in Cahersiveen County Kerry.
While staying in our holiday accommodation in Cahersiveen the nearby town will provide you with the essentials and supplies you require on your next self-catering holiday. This lively town has a pharmacy, a selection of pubs, grocery shops, restaurants, cafes, and a garage.
Enjoy a 1-hour walking tour of the town, visit historical sites, and learn about Daniel O Connell ‘The Uncrowned King of Ireland’. Throughout June, July & August there are a host of summer camps organised in the town such as pottery making, horse-riding and art camps which are held in the local community centre. Every August you can enjoy open air concerts and creative art at the ‘Cahersiveen Festival of Music & the Arts’ which is held annually on the August Bank Holiday weekend. From this colourful and lively seaside town, you can go freshwater fishing or sea water fishing. Join a local trawler and go on an unforgettable fishing trip off the coast of Kerry.
If you love horse riding then you will be delighted to learn that there are several local Equestrian Centres. For a memorable self-catering holiday in Cahersiveen trek along the sandy isolated beaches, through the lush countryside, or the winding trails along the famous Ring of Kerry.
Along this section of the Wild Atlantic Way, there are a choice of walks you can enjoy such as Beentee Loop. This 9km trek will take you to the top of the Beentee Mountain where you will be treated to spectacular views over Cahersiveen and across to Valentia Island. Just outside Cahersiveen is Cnoc na dTobar (690m high) an official pilgrim path that can be enjoyed by the experienced and not so experienced.
If you would like to play golf then head to Waterville Golf Links or Hogs Head Golf Course. Waterville Golf Links is ranked as one of the finest links golf courses in the world.
A little further afield and for an unforgettable experience book a day trip to the wonderful Skellig Islands. The ferry leaves from Portmagee Pier which is only a 15-minute drive from our holiday home in Cahersiveen. Skellig Michael rises from the sea, reaching a height of 218 metres above sea level and on the summit, there is a well-preserved 6th-century monastic settlement. Please note it is advisable to book well in advance to reserve your desired departure date and time.
Nearby is White Strand Blue Flag beach which is a 500m long sandy beach located 5km west of Cahersiveen town. The beach is a very popular spot for swimming and offers beautiful views of Valentia Island and Begnis Island and great nearby walks such as Dolus Head.
From Cahersiveen you and your guests will discover many tourist attractions and hidden gems along the scenic Ring of Kerry with ease.
