Castlebar has a variety of attractions plus there is a great selection of traditional Irish pubs, restaurants, shops, a cinema and a bowling alley.

The town’s central location makes it a great base for visiting Mayo’s top visitor attractions such as Ballintubber Abbey, The Ceide Fields, Croagh Patrick and Foxford Woollen Mills which are all easily accessible. There are some great annual festivals in Castlebar, including the International Four Day Walks. The National Museum of Ireland – Country Life at Turlough is a wonderful exhibition which shows how the people of rural Ireland lived in the hundred years between the Great Famine and the end of the 1950s.

Hire a bike for Bikes & Boards and explore the Castlebar to Turlough Greenway. Starting on the shores of Lough Lannagh and stretching for 8 km to the National Museum of Country Life in Turlough, this is a wonderful local amenity.

Along the route visit the town of Westport, located 18km away and situated on an inlet of Clew Bay. This vibrant and pretty town has everything, it was recently voted Ireland’s best loved tourist town. One of the reasons it is so popular is because it has retained its own charm, with an excellent variety of great cafes, restaurants, craft galleries and book shops. Close by is Croagh Patrick or explore the Great Western Greenway which starts in Westport and continues on to Achill Island on a 42km scenic trail.

The beach at Old Head in Louisburgh and at Mulranny are well worth a day trip. Plus, the inland lakes of Lough Mask and Lough Corrib are world famous for angling. Our self-catering holiday homes in Castlebar are conveniently located just 5km from the town and a wonderful base of an action-packed holiday.
