Self Catering Holiday Homes in Cork City, Co. Cork.
Cork City is Ireland's second largest city, with Dublin the capital being the largest but it is referred to as the "Real Capital" by Corkonians and is known as the Rebel County. Cork, just inland from Ireland’s southwest coast, is a university city with its centre on an island in the River Lee, connected to the sea by Cork Harbour.
The castle like 1824 Cork City Gaol once held prisoners bound for Australia, and exhibitions relay the building’s history. The hilltop steeple of 18th-century Shandon Church officially the Church of Saint Anne is a symbol of the city.
It's a vibrant and cosmopolitan place with snug pubs with live-music sessions, restaurants dishing up top-quality local produce, and a genuinely proud welcome from the locals.
The best way to see the city of Cork and sample the flavour of its life, is to walk. There is a signpost Walking Tour, so get the accompanying booklet and set off to explore the hilly streets and meet the people. Stop for a bite to eat at The English Market with openings off Princes Street, Patrick Street and the Grand Parade. The market sells fish, fruit, meat, vegetable and homemade sweets and hot meals!
County Cork is the biggest county in Ireland and is part of both the Wild Atlantic Way and Ireland’s Ancient East plus it has a maritime history spanning over a thousand years waiting to be explored!
