Self Catering Holiday Homes in Foxford, Co. Mayo
Situated on the River Moy, nestling between the Ox and Nephin mountains, Foxford is most famous for its woollen mills founded in 1892 where the finest woollen rugs, blankets and homewares are produced in traditional and contemporary designs. It is a picturesque town and has lots of friendly pubs, restaurants and shops. It is 16km from the larger town of Ballina.
The Foxford Way is an 86km way marked trail which circles the town of Foxford taking in the Ox Mountains, boreens, boglands, archeological sites, lakeshores and river banks so a visit to the area really brings the real Mayo alive.
Another claim to fame is Foxford’s link to Admiral William Brown, creator and first admiral of the Argentine Navy, who was born in Foxford in 1777. William Brown was the defender of Buenos Aires during the Argentina-Brazil War and he symbolised the naval glory of the Argentinian Republic.
