Leinster is probably one of the most accessible areas to reach in Ireland due to its proximity to Dublin, Ireland’s capital. It is served by a large international airport, an excellent road system and a variety of frequent bus and rail services.

As the name suggests, Ireland’s Ancient East dates back thousands of years with many areas steeped in historical events and insights into the formation of the country we know today.

One of the oldest manmade structures in the world is located in County Meath. Newgrange, a stone age tomb, dating back to around 3200bc is even older than the pyramids of Egypt and one of the most mystical attractions to be seen in Ireland.

The round tower of Glendalough and the monastery of Clonmacnoise provide insights into the role of the church and Christianity in our culture. Other attractions such as Dublin Castle, Wicklow Gaol and The Dunbrody famine ship give visitors an insight into what life in these times was really like in Ireland in days gone by.

According to Ireland’s National Meteorological Service, Met Eireann, Irelands South East Coast gets on average 7 hours of sunlight a day compared to 5-6.5 hours for the rest of the country. If the sun is what you are craving this year then the south east is the way to go.
