Yeats, who is buried in Drumcliffe, at the foot of the magnificent Ben Bulben. County Sligo has an extremely high concentration of ancient remains including the Megalithic cemetery at Carrowmore and the Neolithic cairn at Knocknarae, known as Queen Maeve’s grave. There are wonderful castles and period houses to visit including Lissadell House, Markree Castle and Parkes Castle. The beautiful duned Blue flag beaches along Sligo’s coastline at Enniscrone, Rosses Point and Strandhill have become very popular with surfers from all over the world. Traditional seaweed baths are available in some wonderful spas in Sligo town. Golfers have plenty of choice in Sligo with a variety of championship links.
