The Rose of Tralee International Festival

Tralee is probably best known for its international festival, The Rose of Tralee which is held in the town every August. The name of the festival takes its name from the traditional Irish folk song ‘The Rose of Tralee’. This International Festival which has been held annually every August since 1959. About Tralee

Situated in North Kerry this thriving town has an array of restaurants, good shopping, traditional Irish pubs and cosy cafes. The local amenities and attractions make it a great destination for a family holiday, they include an 8-screen cinema, The Playdium, tennis courts and lots of great water-based activities available at the local Aqua Dome. Bicycle hire is also available in the town so you can explore Tralee and beyond at your own pace. Visit Kerry County Museum an interactive exhibit on the local history or Blennerville a restored windmill and visitor centre. For an educational day out visit Tralee Bay Wetlands Eco & Activity Park, a nature reserve with an observation tower.

 

Things to see and do near Tralee

The nearest beach is Banna Strand or Banna Beach which is 12 km away. This picturesque beach is situated in Tralee Bay on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. This beautiful beach extends from Ballyheigue Beach at the Blackrock in the North to Barrow Beach at its southern edge. There is a choice of eight sandy beaches less than 30km from this town.

There are a number of local golf courses ranging from Tralee Pitch and Putt to Tralee Golf Club an 18-hole course designed by Arnold Palmer. Slightly further afield you will find Listowel Golf Club and Ballybunion Golf Club.

Tralee is a wonderful base for exploring the spectacular Dingle Peninsula, the famous Ring of Kerry, Killarney National Park, and the Iveragh Peninsula. All these well-known tourist attractions and scenic drives are within easy reach your holiday accommodation in Tralee town.
