About Wexford

County Wexford in the south east of Ireland, is famously known as Ireland’s sunniest corner and is blessed with over 200 km of coastline peppered, with harbours and long sandy beaches. The fertile farmland gives you rolling pastures and the beautiful River Slaney cuts through the middle of the county.

Wexford was one of the first Viking towns and now hosts the International Wexford Opera Festival each October. It is an interesting, vibrant town of narrow streets, attractive shops, and traditional pubs with a bohemian atmosphere.

The lovely harbour towns and ports such as Kilmore Quay and Duncannon, offer great deep-sea fishing and trips to the Saltee Islands where pubs and restaurants serve locally caught seafood.

It is one of the most popular destinations with Irish holidaymakers, families have gone to Courtown, Duncannon, and Hook Head for generations, where there is an abundance of activities for the whole family to enjoy from, golf to sailing and the adventure centre at Forest Park. Local attractions include the Hook Lighthouse, Dunbrody Abbey, Dunbrody famine ship, and the JFK Arboretum.

The Irish National Heritage Park is an outdoor museum showcasing Ireland’s heritage and history through reconstructions of ancient dwellings and exhibits.

Nature enthusiasts can explore the Wexford Wildfowl Reserve, a haven for birdwatchers with a variety of waterfowl and excellent bird-watching opportunities. For those seeking a blend of culture and natural beauty, the Johnstown Castle and Gardens offer a stunning castle surrounded by ornamental gardens and woodlands, perfect for leisurely strolls.
