About Caherdaniel

Caherdaniel is a village in County Kerry, Ireland, located on the Iveragh peninsula on the Ring of Kerry. It is on the southwestern side of the peninsula, facing Derrynane Bay. The village of Caherdaniel is located two miles to the northwest of Derrynane on the Ring of Kerry, a 179 km long circular tourist route bordered by the Atlantic Ocean. 

Caherdaniel is best known for Derrynane Beach which received the International Blue Flag award for 2018 and Derrynane House & Gardens, home of Daniel O’Connell the 19th-century Irish politician and patriot. The famous blue flag beach at Derrynane with golden sandy coves sets it apart from other holiday destinations in Kerry. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in Ireland at any time of year. It has a magical quality whether for swimming in the turquoise waters warmed by the Gulf Stream in summer or long windswept walks in winter. 

The quaint village of Caherdaniel, has a convenience store, and several great pubs which serve hot food and delicious seafood. Caherdaniel has everything nearby for creating a truly memorable self-catering holiday in Kerry. A self-catering holiday in Caherdaniel and Derrynane is an ideal base from which to play some of Ireland’s most beautiful and challenging golf courses. Waterville Golf Links, designed by Ray Floyd is an 18-hole championship links course that is a mere 30 minutes’ drive away or another challenging course in the immediate area is the Ring of Kerry Golf Club in Kenmare.  

Water sports summer camps are run from Derrynane Pier suitable for all ages and abilities. The exposed and rugged Atlantic coastline for the more experienced water sports enthusiasts is a short distance away from Caherdaniel and Derrynane. Eagle Rock Equestrian centre has pony trekking and beach trekking for all abilities.  

Four miles outside Caherdaniel is Staigue Fort, one of the largest and finest ring forts you are likely to see in Ireland. It stands on a low hill in an amphitheater of rugged hills open to the sea on the south. 

Boat trips to the UNESCO heritage Skellig Islands go from Ballinskelligs Pier or take a day trip out to the Blasket Islands from Dunquin Pier on the Dingle Peninsula.
