About Newport

The heritage town of Newport, located on the shores of Clew Bay, in Co. Mayo, is at the heart of the longest off-road walking and cycling trail in Ireland, the Great Western Greenway. The famous 42km trail is traffic-free and follows the route of the renowned Westport to Achill railway which closed in 1937. It is the perfect escape from the bustle of urban life.

Renowned for its excellent fishing, Newport River and Beltra Lake are regarded as some of the best freshwater fishing grounds in Europe while the town itself is full of hidden gems just waiting to be discovered.

Newport is within a short drive of the stunning sandy beach of Mulranny and the bustling town of Westport, Ireland’s best-loved tourist town. In addition, the Wild Atlantic Way offers an array of breathtaking scenery and exceptional experiences!

Our self-catering accommodation in Newport is ideally located with the trail for the Great Western Greenway right at your doorstep.
