Killaloe – County Clare

Killaloe is situated in south east Co. Clare across the River Shannon from Ballina in northern Tipperary on the shores of Lough Derg, known as Ireland’s pleasure lake. It is a beautiful historic town dominated by the 13th-century St.Flannan’s cathedral on the shores of the lake. The town is famous as being the birthplace of Ireland’s 10th-century high king, Brian Ború. 

Lough Derg, the largest lake on the River Shannon, is the town’s main amenity and ideal for fishing, water sports, and boat trips. Killaloe has a great local population, being just 20 minutes from the city of Limerick, making it an attractive town to visit all year round with a great choice of craft shops, delicatessens, restaurants, and traditional pubs. 

There is also a public children’s playground and a natural outdoor swimming pool for open use during the summer months. A lovely boardwalk opens up wonderful lakeside walks. There are also several marked walks and cycleways of varying difficulty in the area such as the Lough Derg Way and Lough Derg Cycle Way.
