Glenbeigh or Glanbehy is a town situated on the scenic Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry. This beautiful area is home to Rossbeigh Beach, Coomasahran Lake, a number of rock art sites, the Natterjack Toad and Kerry Bog Pony. 

Glenbeigh is often referred to as “The Jewel in the Ring of Kerry,” surrounded by magnificent scenery of the Seefin Mountains, the Caragh River and the Behy River. This makes Glenbeigh an idyllic location for a family holiday or an outdoor holiday with friends in Ireland.  

The hills from Seefin to Drung Hill are known as the “Glenbeigh Horseshoe” and are part of the greater “Kerry Way” well known for its magnificent mountain walks. From your holiday accommodation in Glenbeigh you will be surrounded by an array of popular trails and breath-taking scenery. 

 Coomasaharn Lake provides a horseshoe looped walk. You can hike over several mountain peaks around the stunning Coomasaharn Lake near Glenbeigh village in Kerry. The famous MacGillycuddy Reeks Mountains are also less than 10km to the east. Carrauntoohil, Irelands highest pike is also located on this magnificent peninsula on Irelands west coast.  

The local sandy beach of Rossbeigh is a gorgeous blue flag beach extending 11 km in length. This beach is very popular for swimming, water sports, walking or horse-riding in Kerry.  

Did you know that hang gliding and gliding is also a popular adventure sport in Glenbeigh. Rossbeigh is a great spot for gliding, a unique holiday experience in Kerry. Get to the top of the mountain where there is parking and launch from there. Rossbeigh has smooth sea winds that generally blow from the west, northwest and north.  

Glenbeigh is the area where the Kerry Bog Pony was saved from near extinction in the 1990’s. This excellent breed is now celebrated at the Kerry Bog Village Museum at Ballintleave on the Killorglin road. 

 Glenbeigh is a haven for bird, a huge array of birds, its central location on the Iveragh Peninsula, close to the Skellig Islands as well as the Dingle Peninsula and Blasket Islands, make Glenbeigh an ideal base for a birdwatcher’s holiday in Ireland. 

The Iveragh Peninsula is the largest peninsula in southwestern Ireland, and there is so much to see and do in the immediate area and beyond at any time of the year.
