Moyard is a perfect base for exploring Connemara and the surrounding countryside on your next self-catering holiday to Galway. Moyard village has a petrol station, bus stop, post office and grocery shop. Plus, the popular villages of Cleggan and Letterfrack are both 8.5 km away and the vibrant town of Clifden is 12 km away. 

 Connemara National Park is 3.5 km from Moyard village, one of six national parks in Ireland. The park is managed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service of the Department of Culture, Heritage, and the Gaeltacht. Connemara National Park features 2,000 hectares of mountains, bogs, heaths, grasslands, and forests. The Visitor Centre is open year-round and there is no fee for entering the grounds, trails or viewing the exhibition. Guides at the visitor centre are on hand to provide information about the National Park including wildlife, trails, and things to see and do in the locality. 

Kylemore Abbey, 8.9 km from Moyard village was built in 1868 as a private home for the family of Mitchell Henry, a wealthy doctor from London whose family was involved in textile manufacturing in Manchester, England. The estate is open to the public and well worth a visit on your next self catering holiday to Galway, visit the famous walled Victorian Gardens, restored Abbey’s and experience woodland and lakeshore walks.  

Inishbofin Island is situated off the coast of Connemara, to get to Inishbofin, you must take the ferry from Cleggan pier. Inishbofin has around 180 inhabitants and is a top tourist attraction in Galway. Moyard is 5 miles from the pier at Cleggan and the ferry departs 3 times a day during peak season and 2 times a day during off-peak. 

The scenery around Moyard and throughout Connemara is breath-taking and the landscape is magnificent with majestic mountains, stunning sandy beaches, prehistoric bogs and mist covered lakes.
